It’s Springtime!

And just like that, springtime is here! It’s still cold but the temperature is slowing climbing – and the rain has come! I like rains during spring cause it means, hopefully, that the summer wouldn’t be that hot, or at least, not that dry. The daffodils my husband planted are blossoming – not all of them yet, but they’re slowing showing. I’m also seeing a lot of cherry blossoms around. Hmmm.. I wonder if hubs and I can squeeze in a time to see the cherry blossom festival in DC. Soon, the tulips will be coming out. My dear hubbie said that this could be a good year for the tulips because the winter temps have been consistent – no nosedives on the temp scale to confuse the flowers that it’s time to come out.
I can’t wait to see the tulips my husband planted this year. Last year he uprooted this bush on the corner of our front yard that was getting to be a nuisance. He also transplanted some of the large bromeliads to our backyard and in their places, he planted a lot of tulip bulbs. And I’m really counting on seeing them all come out a few weeks from now. This is the time of year that I love taking pictures of the flowers in our garden.
Even for hubs, this is his favorite time of the year. He looks forward to all the planting he’d be doing – both in our flower and our vegetable gardens. Altho we might be doing a little bit of cleaning this year in the yard. (God, please give us the time to do so
. We had a walk around the neighborhood one night and while we looked at some of our neighbors’ front yards, we decided that we want to downgrade on some of the “shrubbery” in ours. Just to give our elevation a “neater” view.
It would be a big feat to do some new landscaping, tho. But with my husband’s green thumb, I guess we have a better chance of accomplishing the task.
But just in case we can’t get it done, I wonder how much TruGreen would charge for the job? (Trust me, I’m not really that good with plants but I do know a thing or two that could be a big help, ha ha ha).
Home Sweet Home
It’s a bad real estate market right now. After a big soar in the house sales and activities the past couple of years, the business plummeted so dramatically. Altho, it’s always been known that sooner or later the bubble will burst. But we probably didn’t expect that it would dive this hard. A really big “ouch” for everyone connected to the biz and for those who had those “changing” interest rates. I know a couple of our friends who lost their houses or are about to because of the fluctuating interest rates they had on their loans. (Can’t remember exactly what that’s called. Must ask hubbie what the term is.)
I wonder if one of the reason for the recession we’re having right now is because of the unbalanced priorities the government has of where to channel their energies (and their money). Like, if the government started concentrating on the deteriorating economy when it was starting to go down rather than putting in more money in their “military projects”, would we be experiencing this right now? Or at least, it won’t be this bad?
‘Sad when you hear of people losing their houses or letting them go to foreclosures because they just can’t afford the high interest rates or they lost their jobs because of the retrenchments happening. A couple of my friends have moved from California to Maryland because the real estate lending company they used to work at had to cut down on people. And there isn’t much work in the Golden State right now, so they’re moving back east. Good for me, tho, cause I really miss my “homies” so this time, I can see them without breaking my bank account
On one hand tho, this is the best time to buy a house. That is, if you get approved to avail of a housing loan. It’s specially good for renters. Because of the low prices, they have a bigger chance of owning the house of their dreams now. But if you’ve got a house (like hubbie does) and you need to sell it before you buy a new one, this is still not the good time to do so. It’s even harder if you have to do a lot of repairs to the house to get it as presentable as you can for the buyers. There’s just a stiff competition out there right now.
So since the unbelievable gas hike is really putting a toll on our sanity plus hub’s house being fully paid (yup, blood, sweat and tears he put in in paying for the mortgage by himself all these years), we’re really considering buying our own house and thinking of just renting out his house for awhile. And since this time around it’s going to be OUR house and we’re both equally going to pay for it, I’m going to make sure that repairs do not pile on top of each other. I’m thinking, the best way to avoid really major repairs (and, consequently, huge house repair bills) would be to make sure that the small carings be done right away. (I wonder if its good to invest on warranties, like those American Home Sheild type. Hmmmm…)
But yeah, we’re off looking for a new place again. The gas prices is making it too unreasonable for us to be living in Baltimore when my work is in Annapolis. Lucky for hubs cause he works in downtown Baltimore, so Annapolis would just be the same commute as where we’re currently at. I’m actually excited to have a house we can now call “ours” – meaning mine and hubs. I’m now dreaming of what to put in, what the whole theme would be. (“Moroccan” really is a strong leaning for me.)
So if we both buckle down and get things going, Christmas might see us in a new house already. That’s just sweet
Viewing Habits
I’m probably one of the few weird women who would rather watch cartoons than any series/news/game shows on TV. Ok. It’s not the Disney or Nickelodeon type of cartoons, tho. I love the Simpsons-King of the Hill-Family Guy-Li’l Bush-American Dad-South Park-Drawn Together kind. The adult-oriented type of humor.
When hubs goes to work at nights and I’m left alone, I turn into a scaredy-cat. I don’t turn the lights, nor the TV off. I’m afraid to sleep in the dark and I’m also scared that if I suddenly wake up at night, I’d discover that the TV’s on a horror show. It’s a good thing that at nights, there’s about 3 or 4 channels on DirecTv that feature these cartoons one after the other. All I have to do is autotune to these shows until about 3am in the morning.
Why am I like this? I don’t know. I’ve always been scared of ghosts ever since I was a kid and upto now, honestly, I’ve never even seen “The Exorcist” ever. So hubs never takes me to watch horror movies and he warns me right away if the shows on TV are scary movies. Silly, huh? Told you, I’m weird…
So why cartoons? For some reason when I watch cartoons, I have a bigger tendency to fall asleep. There’s probably something about their colors or their “one-dimension-ness” that makes my eyes really tired and would just want to go beddy-bye. I tried watching other shows on TV – Desperate Housewives, Lost, whatever else except cartoons and I end up paying attention and watching, ergo, late nights for me. And I can’t afford late nights when hubs isn’t here because I need to wake up early the next day for me to do my 2.5 hours of commute to work. Until now I still don’t know why cartoons put me to sleep.
The other funny thing about me is sometimes, even when hubs is here, I would still autotune the TV and when hubs turn off the TV, most often than not, I wake up. Weird…
I tried not leaving the lights and the TV on. I ended up having nightmares. And I don’t like the horror-movie nightmares kind. They leave me really tossing and turning and I couldn’t get myself to wake up. Not good for my heart condition, hubs says. So… when hubs isn’t here, it will be the lights and cartoons for me.
Too bad… if nightmares were like bugs, a good dose of Terminix would’ve gotten them done, never to be experienced ever again!
Happy Christmas
I know. It’s already March. But if you’re like me, you’ve probably procrastinated this long (almost) to get your christmas pictures done. (Much less share them with the relatives, ha ha ha).
I’ve been so busy putting up all my websites and getting them going that my digiscrapping had to take a back seat. Since January, I’ve only digiscrapped once and I haven’t even created any give-aways yet. (Altho I’m really aiming on giving you some freebies this weekend, hopefully
But when I was browsing thru my sisters’ kits at Gotta Pixel, I kinda took a fancy to this beautiful Christmas kit. I know I have just the right Christmas photos to go with it.
The pictures I used were all taken last December 24 during our Christmas Eve midnight dinner with the family. We were all gathered at my MIL’s house opening our gifts before we partook of the food. The first LO is about our DD, Madonna, and our dear niece, Pearl. Pearl was wearing her nice red dress we bought for her and she wore when she attended her dad’s Marriott staff Christmas party. Madonna was donned and was going to meet up with her friends that night. This was a cute picture that I really had to create an LO for it.
The second LO is of our nephew, Gabe, while he was busy opening one of his gifts. This little guy is such a riot! He enjoyed his first gift-giving Christmas when he can open his gifts himself. He’s shown here unwrapping one of the gifts Judy gave him.
So if you want some cute and cool Christmas Kits, run along to GottaPixel and choose anyone of these other page kits for your Christmas photos that are just waiting for you to create a layout for. It’s never too late for Christmas digiscrapping

My Favorite Picture
I took this picture during our last outing to Washington, DC. This is my good friends’ sweet daughter, Therese.
When I was still working at Thurmont in NW Maryland, I lived with a couple who were both my co-workers. Eventually, they became our very good friends and we’re very close. During then, I was missing my husband so much because I could only see him during the weekends or not even if he was scheduled for a “weekend-to-work”. My friends’ little girl became my source of joy specially when I felt like I was getting lonely for my husband.
This is one of my favorite pictures during that trip to DC.

Good Vibe Visit
I had a wonderful weekend courtesy of some very, very good friends who came and visited us Saturday to Sunday. These are friends who, some, I haven’t seen for more than two years. (Two of them moved from California and are now working in the same company I used to work at before I moved to Annapolis.) They came with their kids and it was such a fun riot! We housed 8 adults and 8 kids (our niece, Pearl) included. The whole living room was full of sleeping bags and air mattress on Saturday night.
I love having people over every so often. They bring warmth and good vibes. My mom always said that inviting people over brings in good chi. So true. Even after my friends left, I could still feel the good vibes going around the house (that, plus maybe our living room and kitchen really look neat and clean right now
Kids also bring in good vibes maybe because their young energy is very effecting.
That Sunday, we all went to DC. It was tiring but so much fun. I guess I was so inspired by our meeting that I’ve taken some nice pictures (I think
so I’m showing them all off here.
Here’s hoping I see them all again really soon.
A (Not So) New Template
———————————————————
It’s not so new but I created a template for my personal Filipino blog. I’m creating some more new templates for friends and some other sites I have. I’ll post them here when they get done.
Ok, “Totally-Family-Pictures” alert here!! I’ve been hoarding these pictures in my laptop for awhile now. I couldn’t find the time to organize them. But they are sooooooooooo overdue that some of them could celebrate their own birthdays already. Oh well, here they are…
Scrapping Again…
I had a chance to digiscrap again last night (Sunday). I haven’t visited my sisters’ online digital scrapbook store lately and I was pleasantly surprised to see that my youngest sister, Pia (or Minicake), has been creating a lot of cute elements. My younger sister, Gretch, has also created some new and beautiful page kits. And so I was so inspired to try them out!
I try not to download more than I could use. So I just downloaded Gretch’s newest kit, Great Day, for now and these are what I came up with. I gotta admit that my layouts are not as “intricate” and detailed as my sisters. Theirs are more modern than mine. Maybe it’s because I started with traditional scrapbooking that my LOs still seem to be “clean”. I have to learn to do more “freestyling” technique, like they do.
But I enjoy digiscrapping. Altho unlike before, I don’t want to be dictated anymore by what a designer or a shop wants so I’m sticking with my sister’s designs and just display my LOs wherever I want to. I am seriously thinking of revamping our SFOS site so that my sisters and I can put in more LOs in there.
So I hope you all like these. The first LO is of our mom and dad. I’m really looking forward to seeing them come April. They’ll be coming from Calgary and will be visiting for about a week. I really miss them.
The next LO is my one and only (for now) neice from my sister, Pia. I really miss her so much. I saw her on Pia’s webcam last night while we were chatting. *sigh* I wish the Philippines isn’t that far from here… I really miss my family back home.
