What’s In Your MP3 Player?

They say that the music you play reflects your moods, if not your personal taste.

I am a child of the 70s and 80s and I love the music during those times. (Yes, children, I am OLD – chronologically speaking, hahaha.) There’s just so much memories when I hear those songs. I know my childhood wasn’t really the stuff made for fairy tales – much alone my teenage years. But now that it’s been decades since then, I have this tendency to romanticize them all. Maybe because whatever hurt or angst I felt then, I have either come to terms with it, or have just forgotten the hurt altogether. Age does that to a person.

Ok, enough rambling.

So what’s in my player?

I don’t just have oldie music in my mp3 player, tho. Which, btw, isn’t an iPod. I have the Zen Vision:M. Why? Because I’m the kind of person who always, always, ALWAYS chooses to get more bang for the buck. That, plus, I’m a cheapskate. Ha. Ha. Ha. But seriously, for the features my Vision:M has and for the price I got for it (which I have to say, I got on sale at Circuit City), it beats the iPod. Not that I don’t want an iPod. Just that… yeah, I’m a cheapskate.

Ok, I’m rambling again. Where was I? Oh, yeah. I always have some new artists on my player. I love Alicia Keys! That woman can write music. I got her latest CD from Starbucks. The barista, maybe due to boredom, let me listen to their own copy (while she yakked about how good it is) before I bought one from her. Not that I was doubting Alicia’s talent… I was just excited to hear right away what she has in that CD.

I also have Vanessa Carlton. Have you seen her mtv of “A Thousand Miles”? Gosh, that girl can play the piano! I’ve never learned to play the piano and I really, really envy anyone who could play it good. I loved that song that much that I made a video of my sister-in-law’s reunion with her high school classmates using this song as the background music.

And the Corrs. This group’s music is so fresh. I have their song “Breathless” on my ringtone when my hubbie phones me. Which reminds me, I have to get their latest CD next payday.

Oh, and I also have Maroon V. The major reason I love this group – Adam Levine! And what else do I have? Amy Winehouse, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Janet Jackson, Clazziquai Project, John Legend, John Meyer, Mandy Moore, Norah Jones, and so many more. I also have a lot of Filipino artists – Bamboo, Orange and Lemons, Rivermaya, Sitti Navarro, Up Dharma Down, 6 Cycle Mind. And these are just some of them. I have the usual here and there, one hit wonders, once seen and never heard of again.

I’m a lover of Jazz music. Fusion, Classic, Smooth, Latin. From Ella F. to Workshy.

I actually have a lot more – not as many as the others I’ve asked. But I’ve got abot 863 songs. Enough for me to forget that I have some songs that I didn’t remember I already have.

Does this give you an idea of who I am?

This I Know
I have finally found out what my passion is. I love baking cakes, cupcakes and cookies and decorating them. Working with my hands and creating wonderful goodies that people will love, seeing the smile on their faces, the amazement in their eyes - this is what makes me happy. So I claim to the universe, I will have my own successful baking business very soon. Successful enough to leave the rat race they call the corporate world and surround myself with the food that I love to create. - Gigi "Ate Sienna" Manaloto-Refugia
