Post Christmas Post: The Christmas Tree

xmastree11/365 days of blogging.

Since the last entry I have in here was when I was waiting for us to buy a tree, it’s but proper, I think, that I follow up on that entry and show you THE tree. I know… too late, eh?  But what the heck, I need to blog about it for journalling’s sake.  So here goes.

We got the tree the day after Thanksgiving day.  We knew we wanted a slim one and not t00 big, but big enough to make the house look very special during the time we have it up.  We went to Home Depot and started to look around.  My darling husband (DH) found this one and I have to agree with him, it will look really nice.

It wasn’t that easy to bring home the tree either.  DH had to take down the seat at the back of the van and we made sure we were careful while we were loading it inside the van - too much needles, too hard to take off the seats. And it was a weight, too, carrying it inside the house.

xmastree2After that, I brought all the stuff I’ve been buying little by little out in the living room and started putting in the lights first.  I admit, I am soooo picky.  I did it myself to make sure that I could get the lights inside the tree and that 95% of the branches would be lighted.   In fact, we even had to make a short trip back to Home Depot because I ran out of lights 2/3 of the way to the most bottom part.  And I didn’t want to start all over again from the top.  It would be way much easier just to go do the trip.

xmastree3After an hour of helping, DH got bored and decided that he’d rather just go online on Facebook.  Ha, ha, ha.  Talk about your “for better or for worse”, he left me all alone decorating the tree.  But, on the other hand,  that was just fine.  Being the OC person that I am with things like this, I’d rather work alone, really.  It’s theraphy for me.

So after about 4 hours of setting up the lights, putting in all the ornaments, and about 3 months of preparation, I had my Christmas tree up in the living room!  It was pure heaven to see it there, all aglow with the angel trimmings and all the colored christmas balls in jewel tones.  And I was very proud of myself.  My first real Christmas tree.  Mine and DH’s first actual tree since we’ve been together.  This is special.  This is what will make the Christmas season really feel like Christmas.

What made me prouder is the fact that I got almost all of my stuff on sale - the dollar stores, 2nd-hand angel ornamets which I got for $27 for all 30+ angels, the Tuesday Morning store where I got that one special fairy/angel ornament, my tree topper and my tree skirt, and Lowes and Home Depot and Big Lots for the lights and balls.  And even if they were inexpensive, the tree looked like a million bucks.  All ornaments are “first timer’s” on our tree - no hand-me-downs from Christmas past.  Which is how I wanted it to be.

xmastree4DH and I said that our lives together will the the happy start of our individual lives.  And this tree is one of the symbols of it - a promise of the more beautiful Christmases to come.  It did start a little late because we’ve been married close to 4 years when we first bought a tree, but with everything happening when we started, we had to wait till the right time to make the changes.  So I guess, you now have an idea of how memorable and significant this tree is for the both of us.

I know, I’m romanticizing this a lot.  But this is the truth.  If you’ve gone through a lot in your life,  the little things like this would be very significant to you and you want to make it very special.  Without getting into so much detail, DH and I went through a lot to get to where we are now - both as individuals and as a couple.  And that is how I will always want to be reminded whenever I would put up our other trees in the future.  It will always come back to this very first tree and what it meant to us to have it, finally, in our living room.
