My Girls

I’ve been sooooo busy this summer. Since my husband and I got married, this might be the first summer that saw us really enjoying every day of it from beginning to end that it just went by so fast for us.

We had a chance to go to Virginia, take a trip down to Florida with friends, went camping and picnic-ing at the beautiful state parks here in Maryland. Not to mention all the get-togethers, the dinners, the little what-nots here and there with our friends. It was indeed a wonderful summer. And we both look forward to more summers like this. (Rome and Italy and the Philippines next year, maybe?)

Anyways, this will explain why I haven’t been too good in updating this blog. As much as I want to do so, there’s just too many things happening that maintaining many blogs during these days could be quite time-consuming. Altho I’ve been trying to update my Filipino blog as often as I can. Its only because more people know me from that blog. They bug me when I don’t update it as often. ;)

But school has started and we’re slowly (despite protests from my husband) inching our way towards fall. As proof, it was a cooler summer night by comparison  last night and the weatherman says it continues on tonight. So maybe… just maybe, I’d have more time now to update my 10,000 and 1 blogs while I wait for next spring to come.

Also, I have 2 girls who are also keeping me away from blogging these past few weeks. I’ve been sewing dresses for them and I just can’t stop! I’ve been taking pictures of them and I want to share them with you. You’ll be seeing more of them from now on. I know my friends are all having a blythe overload what with all the photos of them all over. But I just LOVE them and I am a little bit obsessed with them right now. All I can think of are their dopey faces and what else I can make for them and how else to photograph them. So here they are. Hope you’ll enjoy them too.

Litratong Pinoy #9: Ihip Ng Hangin

Ever since I moved to Maryland, I had always looked forward to the Preakness Celebration held every May. It’s a series of events in Baltimore celebrating the famed Triple Crown thoroughbred race, the Preakness Stakes (the other two races of the Crown being the Kentucky Derby in Louiseville, Kentucky and the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York) .

One of the more awaited events during this time is the Hot Air Balloon Festival. This shot was taken during the launch of the balloons at the Oregon Ridge on my first year here in Baltimore. It was truly awesome to see all of them in the air.

Some More Pictures

My husband and I love photography! We enjoy going places, just the two of us, and just start taking pictures. We’ll bring our trusty Canon A40 and our Canon Rebel XTI and we’d be good to go. We’ll swap the two cameras between the two of us and get lost in the world. At the end of the day, we’d feel accomplished. Not just because of the shots we take but also because we have the whole day for just the two of us.

I have to admit, hubbie has a better eye when it comes to compositions. He finds angles that I rarely see. But he always says I take better portrait photographs. Well, I just try :)

There’s a high I get when I’m in any place and have nothing on my mind except taking pictures. I see a subject and really get into it. But don’t get me wrong, I don’t always come up with very good compositions. But I think that’s where the ultimate high comes from – that one shot that would make you say “Hey, this isn’t so bad!” No matter if you’d taken a hundred photos before you got to that one good one. It still was worth the whole afternoon for me.

We’ve taken a lot of pictures already for the past two years. And I’m really counting on us taking so many more in the years to come. And hopefully our photographs would get better and better – just like wine… just like a good marriage.

This I Know
I have finally found out what my passion is. I love baking cakes, cupcakes and cookies and decorating them. Working with my hands and creating wonderful goodies that people will love, seeing the smile on their faces, the amazement in their eyes - this is what makes me happy. So I claim to the universe, I will have my own successful baking business very soon. Successful enough to leave the rat race they call the corporate world and surround myself with the food that I love to create. - Gigi "Ate Sienna" Manaloto-Refugia
