Farewell, Francis

I just have to write about this.

Francis Magalona

Farewell, Francis M.

“Magalona succumbed to multiple organ failure “secondary to severe sepsis and secondary to pneumonia…”   This, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

This is really sad news for me as Francis M was an icon of my youth.  He was my contemporary.  His demise at a young age of 44, just makes me more aware that we’re not as young as we used to be.   And that I’m getting into the phase where I’m hearing more of people around my own age, or who I grew up knowing, passing away.

The first time I heard that he had leukemia a few months back, it already saddened me so much.  But I was still hopeful that he would get well, knowing that a lot of people with the big “C” usually survive the disease and live longer lives.  At the back of my mind, I was praying he would be one of them.   But sadly, the Lord probably has other plans for him and his family.  It was time for the master rapper.

For Francis, he will be a big loss to Philippine Showbusiness.  He was considered the proponent of Filipino Rap.  He rapped about ideals, nationalism, Philippine Pride.  He was considered a rapper with so much class.    Much as I’m praying for the repose of Francis’ soul, I am also praying for his wife, Pia, and their brood of 8 children.  I pray that the Almighty One would bless them with all the graces to deal with Francis’ passing.

Rest in peace, Francis M.
